We got the wild hair to take a spontaneous trip over the Beartooth pass and spend 2 days and one night in Yellowstone and we just got back. Exhausted of course. Our almost 11 month old did pretty well most the time but she is still little. She threw a few fits and I don't blame her. Overall however we had a wonderful time. We saw a lot of critters, spent a lot of time marveling in the outdoors, and enjoyed being together as our little family. At one point we met and older couple who couldn't get enough of Harper and I can't get out of my head what the old man said..."You know people probably are seeing you take these pictures with your baby and wondering what you are doing. She is so little she can't possibly know what is going on. What they have yet to realize is just maybe you aren't taking the pictures for her. Maybe those pictures are for you. Because down the road when you look at them it will be because in that moment you were there.."
So yes we stuck Harper in front of a thermal pool, an elk, and old faithful to one day say see, you were there! But really this is just the beginning. This was for us just as much as it was for her. The wonderful thing about having a child is you get to experience the world over again for them. It it such a blessing and it really makes you open your eyes. You learn to appreciate it all over again. And that is the best kind of adventure there is!
