| Beer and Huskers. Two things I do quite well. |
Yesterday a part of me died. Or so it felt like that. Well kind of. Yesterday the Nebraska Cornhuskers and Tom Osborne were two of the top ten trends on twitter. It was pretty awesome. As a HUGE cornhusker football fan I felt proud. One who was not a fan might have thought, who is the Tom Osborne fella? Did he die? Is that why he is trending? But no. Tom Osborne who is really really old just announced he retirement from being the University of Nebraska's athletic director.

I love me some Nebraska football and Tom Osborne is one of the most successful coaches in College Football history. In a way he saved our football program. According to ESPN each of the 25 Nebraska football teams Osborne coached won at least nine games, and three of his last four teams won national championships. He left coaching after the 1997 season with a career record of 255-49-3, an .836 winning percentage that ranked fifth all-time among Division I coaches, and 13 conference titles. Pretty much making him a bad ass.

Not only was Tom an amazing coach but he went on to have a very successful political career. He served in the House of Representatives where as a senior in high school I actually got to meet him. As a Husker fan it was one of the most amazing days of my life. True story. I'm that obsessed with my football team.

After his political career he returned to UNL to serve as athletic director once again doing big things for Nebraska. For decades Tom Osborne has been a big part of what Nebraska and the Cornhuskers are. He is a legend and a hero to those who love the Huskers like me. Thank you for everything you have done for UNL Tom. As a fan I look forward to seeing who our new Athletic director is. Whomever it is they have some very big shoes to fill and they better do it well.
